Rainy Day

Today we began with writing a haigu poem. A haigu is written to go with an image, and I chose a picture of the mountains. The first line of the poem must be five syllables, the second line seven, and the third line five again. My paternal family comes from the rocky mountains in Colorado, so I have always felt a certain calling to them. When I get the chance to move out of Ohio, after travelling as much as I can, I hope to make a new home in the mountains. I addressed this feeling of home in the mountains in my poem.
After we finished the poems, we went out front to catch the bus for our field trip. The bus ended up being an hour late, so I spent that time playing four square, Frisbee, and basketball with my friends. I'm terrible at basketball.
Our field trip was to Cox Arboretum, and as soon as we arrived it started to rain. At first it was just a drizzle, so we decided to do our exploring anyways. It started raining too hard for Jessica and I to see through our glasses, so we sped-walk for cover inside the main building. While the rest of our friends were out getting soaked, we dried our jackets and shirts off with the hand drier in the bathroom.
It did stop raining after a few minutes, and we began our scavenger hunt. It was pretty difficult at first because we didn't know where anything was, so we just wandered around until we found things we could check off our list.
Despite the rain, it was a very fun day. If I learned anything today, it's that there is nothing that can stand in the way of having a good day outside. Maybe I'm biased because I actually love the rain, but it's not always enjoyable walking around cold and damp. We got to explore some pretty cool things like edible gardens and tree towers, so we didn't let the rain stand in the way. When we got back to the school, I felt relaxed and refreshed, so I want to make an effort to spend as much time as I can outside every day. I also hit my step goal before noon.
